This is Reto.
My bike buddy.
We knew each other for two years at the time, but because our bikes were dusty and in need of an overhaul in our respective cellars, we came up with the - actually so obvious - idea of a joint bike tour very late.

Reto is well trained and has a lot of stamina - quite unlike me at this point.
We therefore chose a flat route along river valleys for the beginning and easily crossed the hills into the Rhine Valley by car, with the bikes in the trunk.
We unpacked our bikes in a public parking lot near a supermarket and set off on a flat, but not really short tour of 70 km.

With rented bikes
Without the photo shoot with Raphael, this bike tour would never have happened. And who knows? Maybe Reto and I would never have discovered the joy of cycling together?

When the shoot with Raphael was coming up in summer 2017 and my own bike was still gathering dust in the cellar, I needed a replacement for the bike as a prop. So I came up with the idea of renting one.
If for Raphael, why not for us too?
So the idea was born - and also a shared passion.
Reto opted for a fully, as he was used to it, and I chose a hardtail, as I was unfamiliar with suspension until then. After all, my Wilier mountain bike is still from 1995!
Although we are both about the same height, our upper body and leg lengths are quite different. Reto, with his much longer upper body, needs a larger frame with a longer top tube and I need a smaller frame size, but set the saddle much higher for my long legs. I was able to find what I needed in the well-stocked bike rental shop.
We quickly realized that the best thing about cycling for us was the breaks, during which photos were taken every time, like here in front of the turquoise-blue waters of the Old Rhine. The camera was mostly on a tripod that day, triggered by the smile detector.

Why the new QuickStep?
When it came to the question of which cycling clothing to purchase for the future, one thing was especially important to me: a matching, surely original time trial suit. This was only available at the most reliable online source I know, Bobshop(not paid advertising), from Team QuickStep Floors.

So I bought a complete set consisting of a time trial suit, short bib shorts, a short-sleeved jersey, two pairs of leg warmers and arm warmers, a peaked cap and a bandana as well as two pairs of gloves and two pairs of socks. With this combination, I had left myself the option of a photo shoot with two boys without having bought too many items twice.
Not only did he look cool all in blue, but he also had a lot of fun and pleasure in it! :)
However, I had deliberately chosen the size so that the suits also fitted me. And as I felt the time trial suit was something special, it had to be big enough in case Reto wanted to wear it one day.
The morning before our first bike ride together, I was delighted that Reto was happy to put on one of the QuickStep cycling suits to ride in. I insisted that he take the time trial suit, while I made do with the bib shorts and jersey. But due to his long upper body, the zipper of his time trial suit pulled up very far.
The well-chosen, perfectly maintained rental bikes and the precisely fitting, close-fitting QuickStep suits made this day on the bike a perfect experience.

Hardly tangible happiness!
It is really something special to be able to share a cycling suit with someone.
Just how special this is can only be understood by those who also have a special fondness for cycling shorts and a deep desire for a cycling shorts buddy.

When we were so close to each other sitting in the sun, I felt that at that moment and with Reto, a long-cherished dream had finally come true.
The QuickStep cycling suits connected us both in color and shape, as well as in the feeling of the tight fabric all over the bodies from the head over the arms, chest and stomach, the hips, the seat insert in the crotch, and further down over the legs to the feet.
As we already had such a complete set of clothes, we wore them from top to bottom. But by now it was early afternoon, the sun had reached its full strength and we were getting warm.So the arm warmers were the first thing we said goodbye to: One body part less in the comfortably tight wrap.
